Charles Mangino

Charles N. Mangino, Sr., 78, of E. Washington Street, New Castle passed away peacefully the morning of March 8, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 30, 1934 in New Castle and was the son of the late Sandy and Anne Rotunno Mangino. On July 5, 1958 he married his wife the former Shirley Mae Frank. She preceded him in death September 8, 1999. He later married his second wife, Thelma Dantonio Tuscano on November 10, 2006. She survives. Mr. Mangino lived in the Mahoningtown section of New Castle most of his life. He graduated from New Castle High School and played high school football. After high school, he started his first business, Sandy and Chuck Clothing Store. As a lifelong entrepreneur he had owned several businesses. He was best known as the owner of S&C Food Mart in Mahoningtown, which is now Mangino’s Pizzeria. Charles had served on the board of Mahoning Finance for many years and currently served as president of the company for the past few years. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in Fort Riley, Kansas and was honorably discharged. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Mr. Mangino is survived by three children, Veronica Izzo and husband Joseph of Hermitage, Daniel Mangino of New Castle and Charles Mangino, Jr. of Naples, FL; daughter-in-law, Johanna Yakubic Mangino of New Castle; sister, Palma Argiro of New Castle; stepchildren, James Tuscano and wife Trish of Columbiana, OH, Michael Tuscano and wife Christine of Greensboro, NC and Kimberly Ferrese and husband Craig of New Castle; grandchildren, Jessica Gibb and husband David, Ali Izzo, Chailse Mangino, Brittany Mangino and Michael Mangino and step grandchildren, Jessie Tuscano, Amanda Tuscano, Carlie Tuscano, Lauren Tuscano, Acacia Ferrese and Lexie Ferrese. In addition to his parent and first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers Sandy Mangino, Thomas (Bear) Mangino and Robert (Bobby) Mangino. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle. Military rites will be conducted by the New Castle Area Honor Guard on Tuesday morning at the funeral home at 9:15 AM. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Tuesday for a mass of christian burial to be celebrated by Father Frank Almade at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, New Castle. Interment will be in St. Lucy Cemetery.
